Spring 2025
Dear THESA Members,
Does it feel like your community is just coming out of hibernation where you are too? There is nothing quite like spring! As spring is springing, I am delighted to share the latest happenings from our Provincial Specialist Association. I hope you all had a wonderful and refreshing spring break! This season brings renewed energy and opportunities for growth, both in our classrooms and in our professional community.
Just like the flowers popping up, professional growth opportunities are coming up all over this year! First - mark your calendars - THESA is so pleased to share that our 2025 conference will be held on October 24 in beautiful Squamish, BC (with a virtual option)! Thank you to the THESA members who stepped forward to host. More details are to come.
Next, thank you to all THESA members who joined us virtually for our free Spring Workshop on textile construction skills with The Sewing Club’s Erin Kerr! Visit here to check out Erin’s studio shop and here for the session’s compiled resources. If you have ideas for next year’s virtual Spring Workshop, let us know!
Finally, the Canadian Symposium on Home Economics Education was held in London, Ontario earlier this year. THESA members attended, some in person, some virtually. The presentations were engaging, timely, and highly relevant to our classroom practices. It was a pleasure to see some of our THESA members presenting as well. Meeting with home economics educators, affiliates, and advocates from across Canada and around the globe provided a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the current state of home economics education. The symposium proceedings are currently being compiled, and we will share the link with you once they are finalized and available.
If all this professional development talk is making you realize how awesome you and your colleagues are, nominate someone to be recognized for their efforts! THESA is looking for nominations for the Pins of Recognition as well as our new award: the Home Economics Teacher of the Year award! Visit our website thesa.org to submit your nominations.
Lastly, I encourage members to stay connected through our online platforms. Share your experiences, ideas, and resources with fellow teachers! Together, we can continue to support and uplift each other in our professional journeys. Your passion and commitment make a difference to our students and their communities every day.
