Summer 2025

Welcome back, THESA Community!

I hope you had a wonderful end to the school year. Your dedication in the classroom makes a lasting impact on students and their communities. I hope you were able to find time to rest, reflect, and recharge.

Looking ahead, we invite you to join us for the October 24, 2025 THESA conference, hosted by Squamish home economics teachers. With the theme “Rooted Learning: Connecting Community, Wisdom, and Real-World Skills through Holistic, Hands-On, Place-Based Play”, the event offers both in-person and online options and promises excellent professional development opportunities. We are also seeking hosts for the 2026 conference - please reach out if you and your colleagues are interested.

For professional development, we encourage you to check out THESA’s website. There are many resources to explore like links to podcasts, cookbooks and academic articles that consider and discuss decolonizing and indigenizing home economics.

We are always excited to celebrate the excellent work you and your colleagues do across the province during our AGM at the THESA conference . Please consider nominating a colleague for the “Home Economics Teacher of the Year” award or for a pin of recognition. Learn more and submit nominations here

Wishing you a smooth return to the classroom this September!

Warmly,

Melissa Edstrom
