Spring 2026

Dear THESA Members,

I hope this message finds you well, grounded, and supported in your school communities. For many of you who have recently started a new semester or term, I hope the transition has been smooth and that you and your students are settling into your classroom rhythms.

Before sharing updates, I want to take a moment to acknowledge the tragic events in Tumbler Ridge. Our thoughts are with all those affected—students, families, colleagues, and community members. In moments like these, our connectedness as educators matters deeply. Please continue to care for yourselves and for each other.

As we move into spring, it’s a wonderful time to consider applying for one of THESA’s scholarships or awards. Whether you're pursuing further professional learning, supporting student experiences, or championing excellence in Home Economics education, we encourage you to explore the opportunities available. Learn more and submit your application here: https://www.thesa.org/awards Please share these opportunities with colleagues or teacher candidates who may benefit as well.

Do you and a colleague have an idea you’d love to bring to life in your classroom or school? Or are you working independently on a project or resource that could benefit from financial support? THESA’s group grants and individual resource grants are open for applications. These funds are designed to encourage innovation, collaboration, and meaningful learning in Home Economics programs across BC. Explore the grant options here: https://www.thesa.org/group-grants

Do you want to cook together this spring? We’re excited to invite you to our 2026 Free Spring Virtual Workshop on April 1 at 5:30 featuring Giulia Lombardo where we’ll make pasta without a machine! This is a wonderful (and delicious) opportunity for professional learning, connection, and inspiration with colleagues from across the province. It’s free for members! Register here:

As always, I want to express my gratitude for the creativity, care, and resilience you bring to your classrooms each day. Home Economics teachers play a vital role in equipping students with essential life skills and fostering well-being, and your work—often behind the scenes—makes a lasting impact.

Wishing you a gentle transition into spring and moments of renewal in the weeks ahead.

Warmly,

 Melissa Edstrom
