Spring 2026

THESA NEWSPAPER PRESIDENT LETTER

We are almost there, THESA Community!

As another school year comes to a close, I want to extend my sincere appreciation for the passion, care, and creativity you bring to your classrooms every day. The work you do in home economics education continues to make a profound difference in the lives of students, families, and communities across the province. I hope you are able to take some well-deserved time this summer to rest, reflect, and recharge.

This spring, the THESA executive had a wonderful opportunity to connect in person during our retreat in Victoria. It was energizing to spend time together reflecting on the year, planning ahead, and reconnecting with the vibrant community that makes THESA so special. We were also fortunate to meet with several members while we were there—thank you for sharing your ideas, insights, and enthusiasm with us!

We are excited to celebrate excellence within our community by recognizing this year’s THESA scholarship recipients. Congratulations to all of the winners—your dedication to home economics education is inspiring, and we are proud to support your ongoing learning and leadership. We look forward to sharing more about your achievements.

As you think ahead to the coming year, we encourage you to explore THESA’s professional development opportunities. Both individual and group professional development grants are available to support innovative ideas, collaboration, and continued growth in our field. We know that meaningful professional learning strengthens not only our practice but also the broader home economics community.

We also invite you to help us celebrate the outstanding contributions of your colleagues. Nominations are now open for THESA’s Home Economics Teacher of the Year award and for Pins of Recognition. These honours provide a meaningful way to acknowledge the dedication, leadership, and impact of educators across the province. If someone comes to mind who deserves recognition, we encourage you to take a moment to submit a nomination.

Thank you for being part of such a supportive and inspiring professional community. We look forward to reconnecting with you in the fall and continuing our shared work in advancing home economics education.

Wishing you a restful, joyful summer!

Warm regards,
Melissa Edstrom
