Fall 2025

Hello THESA Community,

I hope the transition into the new school year has been successful and that you are finding rewarding moments in your teaching. It was wonderful to spend the day with many of you this October at the fantastically run THESA conference, Rooted Learning, in Squamish. The event was a resounding success - the food, the atmosphere, and the connection and learning opportunities made for an excellent conference. We extend our sincere gratitude to our hosts in Squamish for their exceptional efforts in organizing and welcoming participants. For those who were unable to attend the conference, please ensure your membership is renewed for the coming year. Membership renewal can be completed here: THESA Membership Renewal.

During our AGM this October, one of THESA’s members, Joe Tong, was recognized as THESA’s teacher of the year. Joe is a dedicated teacher and you can read more about his accolades here once his information gets updated. Recognizing excellence within our profession is an important part of strengthening our community and we appreciate the educator that nominated Joe. I encourage you to consider nominating colleagues for the Teacher of the Year Award or for a Pin of Recognition, too! There are so many educators around our province who are doing incredible things! Our Teacher of the Year award and pins of recognition allow us to celebrate the dedication and achievements of educators who make a meaningful impact. Nomination details are available on our website.

As you adjust to the new reality of AI being a supporting tool as a teacher, we hope that you remember that our website also continues to serve as a valuable resource hub, offering a wide range of materials to support teaching and professional growth. I invite you to explore these resources regularly as part of your practice. Melanie, our Curriculum Chair, regularly updates our youtube chanel with relevant and useful video clips and our decolonization and antiracism pagehas excellent resources for you to explore.

On behalf of THESA, thank you for your ongoing commitment to home economics education in British Columbia. Your work enriches the lives of students and advances our field in significant ways.

With appreciation,

Melissa Edstrom

THESA President
